Live Each Day for God
By Mrs. Cicily Sunny, M.A., B.Ed., MSE
We are living in an era of threat, surprises, frustrations, disasters, and terrorism. The meaning of life is diminishing; it doesn't look secure any more; there doesn't seem to be any safe place in the world. But life has to proceed until it comes to an end no matter what the circumstances are.
As long as we live, we have to explore more lasting ways for hope.
For God, nothing is happening as an accident. God has revealed to us everything that has been happening through his prophets and apostles. The fall of Babylon has been described in Revelation 18 as:
"Therefore her plagues will come in one day- death and mourning and famine. And she will be utterly burned with fire, for strong is the Lord God who judges her."
"Countries will fight each other, kingdoms will attack one another. There will be terrible earthquakes, famines, and plagues everywhere; there will be strange and terrifying things coming from the sky" (St. Luke 21: 10, 11).
When terrible things happen, we blame God for not watching over us and for allowing that to happen. God is looking forward only to our spirit, not our body and riches.
"The spirit who dwells in us yearns
jealousy" (St. James 4: 5).
Momentary pains and losses are of least concern for God. This gives answer to the loss of innocent lives. Sometimes God employs Satan as a tool to take over the destruction He has intended. God always tries His best to protect the humble and faithful physically.
"Go through the whole city of Jerusalem and put a mark on the forehead of everyone who is distressed and troubled because of all the disgusting things being done in the
city" (Ezekiel 9: 4).
"God will put his angels in charge of you to protect you wherever you
go" (Psalms 91: 11).
Throughout the bible, we have plenty of words that fill us with hope. Dying and the kind of death should not be a matter of worry and concern for us. Our prime concern should be the condition of our soul that God will grab away from our body. So let us seek God with all our heart and find Him.
"I alone know the plans I have for you, plans to bring you prosperity and no disaster, plans to bring about the future you hope for. Then you will call to me. You will come and pray to me, and I will answer you. You will seek me, and you will find me because you will seek me with all your
heart" (Jeremiah 29: 11-13).
So let us cast aside all our selfish desires and submit completely to God by living each day thanking and praising Him so that He can use us for whatever purpose He has in His mind. Currently, various rescue workers can help us in times of disasters, but when the last day comes, Jesus will be our only rescue worker. Hence let us make ourselves eligible for that rescue by living each day for Him. |
